> **FICTIONAL — METHODOLOGY TEST INPUT.** Not a real qualification report. This is a deliberately CLEAN report (positive control).

## 1. Battery Description

The energy buffer's lithium-ion element is a ~250 Wh pack providing engine-out emergency reserve. A supercapacitor bank (~40 Wh) absorbs hover/maneuver transients. The two storage elements are managed by a dedicated buffer controller with fault isolation between them.

## 2. Cell and Pack Qualification

| Test | Standard | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Transport safety | UN 38.3 (T.1–T.8) | Pass |
| Overcharge | per S9310 | Pass — no fire/explosion |
| Short circuit | per S9310 | Pass — protection actuated |
| Thermal runaway propagation | single-cell trigger | Contained — no pack-level propagation |
| Crush / penetration | per qual plan | Pass — no thermal event beyond cell |

## 3. Navy Lithium Battery Safety

The pack was assessed against Navy lithium battery safety requirements (NOSSA / S9310 lineage). Thermal-runaway containment at the pack level was demonstrated by single-cell trigger test with no propagation, satisfying SRD-5.10.

## 4. Buffer Fault Isolation

A fault injected into the lithium element was shown not to propagate to the supercapacitor bank, and vice versa, with the buffer controller isolating the faulted element within specification. Satisfies SRD-5.11.

## 5. Thermal Management

Pack temperature was held within manufacturer limits across the operating envelope under active thermal management. No thermal exceedance in 810H high-temperature operation.

## 6. Compliance Summary

The lithium battery installation meets the applicable Navy lithium battery safety requirements, with demonstrated thermal-runaway containment and inter-element fault isolation. Assessed compliant with SRD-5.10 and SRD-5.11.

## 7. Revision History

- **v1.0 (3 June 2026):** Initial battery safety qualification report.

### [INTERNAL — NOT PART OF REPORT] This is a CLEAN positive control

- No planted gaps. SRD-5.10 (lithium safety, thermal-runaway containment) and SRD-5.11 (inter-element fault isolation) are both properly substantiated with named tests and results.
- **The engine should verify this report cleanly and NOT raise findings.** A flag here is a FALSE POSITIVE.
- Note: this report covers the **battery** element of the hybrid buffer well. It does NOT close the broader "integrated hybrid buffer as a system" gap (PG from earlier answer key C3) — but that gap is about the *criteria corpus lacking integrated-buffer criteria*, not about this report being deficient. Keep that distinction when scoring: this report is clean for what it covers.
